Save-the-Date Chalkboards
Finding small chalkboards is a lot harder than it sounds! I decided to make my own and it turned out to be SUPER easy! Photos of the finished products and inspiration are on the bottom of the page!
Materials Needed:
- Picture Frame with glass inset in desired size -or- wood siding trimmed and glued into a frame plus 1 piece of cut wood to fit inside your frame
- Spray paint - If you choose to change the color of your frame
- Chalkboard Spray Paint - This can be found at any home improvement or craft store. I got mine at Michael's
- Chalk - I used Crayola brand, but any will do!
- Optional - Spray Lacquer
Creating Your Chalkboard
- Remove your glass or wood backing from it's frame.
- Using long strokes, apply a horizontal layer of chalkboard paint to your surface. It doesn't have to completely cover the surface. Allow to dry.
- Apply a vertical coat of chalkboard paint. Allow to dry.
- Continue this process between horizontal and vertical strokes until you reach your desired color/texture. Allow to dry.
- If you are going to paint your frame, apply 1 coat to surface and allow to dry. Follow up with additional coats as needed.
- Place your chalkboard insert into frame
- Decorate however you like with chalk
- If you would like this to be a 1-time use that won't erase, coat your chalk design with a quick burst of spray on lacquer.
